Learn how a banked reset refreshes personal five-hour and weekly windows, where to use it, and how it differs from credits.

The short answer

A banked reset is a saved, one-time window refresh—not permanent capacity or purchased credit. Your Usage page controls eligibility and expiry.

01

What it refreshes

OpenAI says a full banked reset refreshes both the personal five-hour and weekly usage windows, changing the next weekly reset date. It does not permanently upgrade your plan.

It is also distinct from a public reset signal: a banked reset is used from your account, while a public announcement is only external information.

02

How to use it safely

Open Settings and the Usage page, confirm a reset is available, and read its scope and expiry before acting. It is consumed only when it successfully refreshes at least one eligible window.

  • Record both windows before using it
  • Confirm the account and workspace
  • Refresh and verify both windows afterward
03

When not to use it

If only one task is failing, an official incident is active, or the Usage page is not loading correctly, diagnose that first. A reset cannot repair an outage, authentication problem or task error.

Frequently asked questions

Is a banked reset the same as credits?+

No. It is a one-time refresh of eligible usage windows; credits are a separate consumable balance.

Why did my weekly reset date change?+

A full banked reset refreshes the weekly window, so the next weekly reset date changes with it.
